Update 26.3.21

26th March 2021

Dear parents/carers

COVID Update 26.3.21

I hope you are all well. I thought it worth mentioning, as I’ve had a couple of worried parents, it is NOT recommended that children under 11 years of age have lateral flow tests as they can be harmful causing nose bleeds in some children and they are not as effective in asymptomatic primary children. We have not heard anything about a vaccine for children but if we hear of anything then you will definitely have to give consent for your child to be vaccinated. So please don’t worry, your children will not be tested (unless they have COVID symptoms and you order them a PCR test and test them at home) and they won’t be vaccinated without your consent.

Test and Trace Support Payment

Parents and carers of children who have been advised to self-isolate by their education setting or by NHS Test and Trace are now able to apply for a Test and Trace Support Payment or discretionary payment of £500, if they meet the eligibility criteria. The extension of the Test and Trace Support Payment scheme, which is administered by district and unitary local authorities in England, ensures that parents receive the financial support they need if they are unable to attend work due to childcare responsibilities.

Requests from staff:

Please don’t bring your dogs onto the playground when picking up children, it is too tempting for the children to gather around the dog (Boskenwyn).

Please could you ensure that only water goes into your child’s water bottle. Juice can be sticky and can stain the workbooks if spilt.

Blended learning on Friday afternoons

Thank you to the families who are working with their children on the blended learning tasks and uploading them onto our Seesaw platform. It is great to see the family learning together on the exciting tasks set by the teachers. The tasks can be completed on Friday afternoon or over the weekend, whichever suits but they will need to be submitted by Monday morning. There is also the option of your child staying at school to complete their task with the help of a learning support assistant. The task is not optional as it forms part of our school week so those who are not completing them at home will be asked to attend school and do them there.

Governor Vacancy

We have a vacancy for a parent governor on the governing body of the federation. It is such a rewarding post so please contact our chair, Russ if you would like further information and would like to attend a meeting on rmonhemius@boskenwyn.cornwall.sch.uk

Hope the sun continues to shine and you all have a lovely weekend
